I really thought we were going to get more from this family and see their close bond, but Gus and Owen spoke to each other like they were strangers and I think that bled into the rest of the entire story. It felt like no one had close relationships. Even the one that built between Owen and Lila felt like it was lacking substance. I think too much of their relationship building was happening off screen. Some of the dialogue came across cringe and the sex scenes weren't very enticing. I actually ended up skimming most of them. It's such a bummer that this wasn't quite what I wanted. I'll try the second book in this series and decide on how I feel about the author. Sadly this was not a good first entry.
