The Secret of the Old Clock
by Carolyn Keene
Wow, I’ve never read Nancy Drew books before and didn’t know how much I wouldn’t like it! Besides it being really predictable, I didn’t like how unrealistic it was. She would meet people randomly at their house by stopping in someone’s garage when it was raining and they would immediately invite her in, give her clothes, have her join in their birthday celebration, and become best friends. No consideration to if she was a crazy person.
I also didn’t like how she was always talking out loud to herself, or even in her head, the most obvious things, like, “Oh no! Here come the thieves! I must find a way to hide!” Or, “Those girls are so mean. I should stay out of their way.” Thanks captain obvious.
I don’t know, maybe the books get better because somehow they’re iconic. And I really like the Nancy Drew computer games. But this book was lame.
