The Clown Hunt by Judith Sonnet

4.0

Aside from the prologue, the first 3rd of the book could've been removed and it would have no ill effect on the story.

Reading chapter after chapter about how a gay man gets sucked off by a male prostitute in a bar bathroom stall to then find himself becoming a gay prostitute who spends his nights as a lot lizard at the local truck stop added absolutely nothing to the story short of to explain why he was wearing a clown costume (a client wanted a prostitute/stripper dressed up as a clown for their bachelor party). It's a long unnecessary build up that could have been explained in a million other ways that could have actually added to the story.

Once the main character and his pimp are run off the road and kidnapped, that's when the fun really began. The gore and brutality was what attracted me to this book and it did not disappoint in the least bit. There were some creative and disturbing scenes from having someone's jaw torn off to a baby being cut out of a womb to then serve as a wishbone as if it was Thanksgiving dinner.

I enjoyed the creativity of the main character being tortured at the end. It wasn't a physical torturing of pain and mutilation but more so of a mental torture that broke him down psychologically.

I would give this book 3.5 and I'm interested in checking out the author's other stories.
