The Foxhole Court follows Neil Josten, a runaway child of mass crime lord, The Butcher. Neil hops from place to place, trying to keep under the radar. When he gets scouted to join the Palmetto State University’s Exy team, he debates whether it would be wise for him to join. The temptation of joking the Foxes being too much, he finds himself at the University, suddenly part of the team. However, not is all that is seems. The team is made up of broken people, and being part of a team full of broken people means that Neil in tossed into their problems. And their problems become his problems. Plus, being part of a team that’s broadcast on TV for everyone to see isn’t great for Neil’s desire to fly under the radar.

KEY POINTS:
* has some very dark and mature subjects and undertones within the story - definitely not like your average sports anime
* subjects risen within the story include mental health, parental abuse, drug use, LGBTQ+, feminism
* complex characters that are interesting to get to know - you end up feeling attached to them
* all the characters have their own personalities and purpose within the story and allow it to progress and develop in a realistic way
* can be hard at times to keep on track of all said characters and remember their names and who's supposed to be who
* the story feels a bit slow - it's clear that the first book's main purpose is to introduce the reader to the characters, the sport and the direction of the story

I was so excited to start reading this series! I received it for my birthday last year and have only just gotten around to reading it now! I'm so excited to see the direction that the story goes in the next two books!
