Nature Obscura: A City's Hidden Natural World by Kelly Brenner

informative medium-paced

4.0

This was such a fun read and very up my alley. I loved how it explored some familiar species in detail but also taught me about new species I'd never known before. I also enjoyed that Brenner interlaced her own experiences discovering these creatures (like searching the moss around her home for tardigrades), but did not make it a book of personal essays that occasionally mentioned animals.

I also loved that the last chapter was devoted to helping the reader become a backyard naturalist, and was very attainable. Things like using your phone to record and download apps, and other things that are easy enough for someone to do without spending tons of money.
