A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

5.0

I really liked this book --with lovely characters and an enthralling set that you genuinely feel grow around you. Though there is a lot that happens, it's more of a slice-of-life style story set in 1910's Brooklyn, and is therefore insightful and interesting to see the ways of life and general beliefs of a former, immigrant-based culture. It reminded me a lot of "Out of this Furnace" meets "The Prince of Tides." Bonus that it is literally set in my current neighborhood and among the nearby streets; if you have any connection to Williamsburg, Brooklyn: check this out!
