What makes you feel alive?
First dates. Holding hands. Forming jokes that are only ours. Memories that no one else but us has. Creating life with a man who doesn’t even know that I cannot create life, not really, and feeling the remorse churning inside me.
I hate this book for breaking my heart over and over, but love it because it was able to.
Somehow this book added a layer of depth to Dean Cole that I never thought could be possible. We saw a completely different side of him, one who likes saving those in need and was protecting them all along. I went into this book with low expectations because I disliked Dean in both previous books. Fate definitely proved me wrong and said there’s always more to learn about a person than what was initially revealed.
“Planet Earth?” I clucked my tongue. “Color me curious.” She whipped her head around, her chin resting on her shoulder. “You are chaotic, crazy, and full of wars and angst. But you’re the liveliest place I’ve ever been to.”
Rosie was a fantastic protagonist. Like Dean, I wasn’t particularly excited to read about her going into this book and I want to punch past me for ever thinking this book would be anything short of fantastic. Her illness only made her braver and stronger, and a character that I admired even more.
And together? They were amazing. A force to be reckoned with.
“What does Miss LeBlanc have that the rest of the human population doesn't?'
'My heart, Sue,' I said. 'She has my heart.”
Honestly, the way the plot progressed was perfect. The fluidity of the important events and how everything (including the flashbacks) was connected made everything fall into place when it was supposed to. I rarely like second (excluding novellas) books more than the first, but this book knocked me off my feet over and over.
