The Wild Inside by Jamey Bradbury

It's hard to talk about this one without spoiling it, honestly. I guess you could call it a vampire or a werewolf book, but maybe not. Skin Walker??? Maybe??? Or maybe it's just a very delusional unreliable protagonist. Either way it's really interesting. Interesting enough I read the entire thing in one sitting.

I will say though, look up Indra Das's book, The Devourers, because it handled everything here a thousand times better.

What is there to say without spoiling it? It's told like a diary entry or if someone is speaking to you, recounting everything. It probably works much better as an audiobook

Violence factor: animals die practically every single page in a really gross and disturbing way. Cats, dogs, forest animals. It happens so often I was desensitised to it by the middle of the book. It was shocking at first, repetitive by the mid-late novel.

Also this protagonist is really interesting in that she is essentially her own villain. Literally every other character is a much better person who really do not deserve to have this monster in their lives.

I can't talk about the big twists but they're really clever.

This book has a lot of blood in it and blood drinking, so if that makes you feel squicked just don't bother.

Finally, it has at least one canon LGBT character, maybe 2. It's kinda nice but doesn't really add or take away anything from the main plot.

Tldr pretty good book for Halloween, but not the best. Has a lot of violence against animals to an extreme degree. Enjoyed it but won't ever read it again
