I reaaaaally wanted to love this, but unfortunately there were just far too many flat moments for me. The first 100 pages were the absolute hardest info dump of any fantasy I have read. I really struggled to get into the world.
From pages 97-116 things picked up; but then went flat again. There were a lot of OMG moments however they couldn’t overcome all the pages I had to struggle through for them.
The ending though was great! It makes me think I will continue the series!
This book should not be advertised as a romantic fantasy though, there is almost no romance. It’s definetly a political book. 600 pages was just such a slog too.
Cassandra’s writing is beautiful though.
