emmymemily 's review for:
Lolita
by Vladimir Nabokov
I had to really let this book sit for a while before I could review it. It's such a paradox. The language is so beautiful but the subject matter is just so disturbing. I found it really intriguing that Nabokov could make Humbert Humbert seem almost likable and Lolita almost unlikable! I really didn't know what to expect from this book and it definitely surprised me. Shortly after reading this, I watched the 1998 movie (with Jeremy Irons) and realized how much I liked the book itself for the actual writing. You don't see that as much in the movie and it loses something.
