I finished this in two days but boy was I bored and annoyed for most of it. I only kept reading to find out if something would actually happen in the next chapter. I also understand that Auren is suppose to be naïve and I don’t mind dislikable characters, but some lines just made me cringe and feel like I’m reading a book for teenagers. There is nothing wrong with that, but I think this is suppose to be an adult fantasy?
First half of the book was so slow and could’ve been more compact. The ‘action’ only happened in the last 15-20% and might have saved the book a little. This book felt like a pilot of a tv show where nothing really happens and it’s all just feels like background work. On the opposite side, the ending felt hurried and as said might have saved the book a little.
I’ve read a few reviews for the next book and it is suppose to be at least a little better. Will try just to find out, but might skip the rest of the series if it’s the same set up as book one.
