The Dance Tree by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

5.0

At this point KMH is an auto-buy author for me. Her prose just resonates with me in such a sensory way, I always have an incredible reading experience. After adoring The Mercies, her first adult novel, I have been looking forward to the next and was not disappointed.

Bullet review:
- Lush and immersive writing
- Fraught with tension
- Based on historical events
- Emotional and heart-wrenching
- Character-driven story

The author definitely put a lot of her own experience in this story and it shows: the MC's experience with miscarriages (TW!) feels raw and real. The historical inspiration, which is explained in the author's note is a fascinating idea, and this was such an interesting take on it!
Bonus point: LGBTQ+ rep, which is especially nice to highlight for Pride month!
