I know this book was written in the 80s, but the writing style is definitely not for me. I struggled to either identify or sympathize with the main character when SO LITTLE of what’s going on is explained. And I like high fantasy books that often have a level of confusion at the magic system early on, but this was way beyond that norm IMO. I also didn’t like the character descriptions. They seemed very old fashioned and a bit gross/creepy, especially when describing women.
I’ve heard really good things about this series and Steven King, as a whole, but finishing this book was a slog for me and I won’t be continuing the series.
