Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis

dark emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.0

The horrific account of Viola's childhood and upbringing was absolutely entrancing. I couldn't stop listening. The things she and her family endured are tragic, and it's nothing short of astonishing that she was able to make the life for herself that she did. Viola's strength and grit shine through from beginning to end, and her faith and love are always at the core of her narrative. The ending fell of just a bit for me. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I found myself zoning out once she got to talking about her big roles, awards, and accolades. Not to say that she isn't amazing and doesn't deserves them because she absolutely does(!), but I feel the way she presented it was almost too humble and modest. She sort of just rushed through it like it made her uncomfortable to talk about anything else but her struggles. Still a fabulous read and one I will definitely be recommending in the future!
