Too Much Happiness by Alice Munro

5.0

I now know why Alice Munro is considered a master of the short story! I own a number of her books, but unfortunately had not cracked them open. I can’t wait to read other collections now that I have read Too Much Happiness. I was completely enthralled by the first half of the book. “Dimensions” left me breathless. I found “Fiction” left me terribly sad and “Wenlock Edge” and “Free Radicals” had the feel of full length psychological thrillers packed into the short story form. I also loved “Wood” and its hopeful ending. I need to re-read a few of the stories because I know my lack of engagement was the fault of my reading, not the telling. When I look back at the wide range of emotions these stories elicited, I know I have met with one of the best collections I have ever read.
