I don't normally expect to rate short story collections with a 5 because I find that more often than not, there are a few stinkers in there.
Alan Moore has blown my entire prefrontal cortex wide open with this one. Every single story in here is at the very least extremely entertaining, if maybe a little bit pedestrian at times? But I had fun all the way through.

To talk about the big honker, What We Know About Thunderman, which takes up I think about half the entire book, I would say that although it was extremely dry and very, very slow, with this aimless gait through time and character that at times made me a little bit bored, it was as close to masterpiece as someone can get, really.
The renumeration and reflection on a lifelong career in comic books, a merciless but darkly funny analysis of both the comics industry and industry in general, all come together in this just mind blowing tapestry of metaphor and circumstance. The way it talks about the hegemony of industry and how that interacts with art and creatives is so personal and so relatable that I found myself stamping my feet with rage at how wretched people can be at times, while also just absorbing the beauty and promise of being able to sustain yourself on your passions. I would recommend everyone get through this, the final metaphorical meditation at the end of What We Know About Thunderman has me absolutely agog right now.
