Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estés

challenging informative reflective slow-paced

2.5

Perhaps my expectations for this book were not in the right place… I expected to read myths and stories about this “Wild Woman archetype” that shows up in various cultures and, instead, I felt that I was reading (at times, seemingly random) old tales into which the author inserts HER conception of the Wild Woman archetype, and her assertions that she squeezes into these stories often feel baseless. This book also felt like an incredibly long-winded read; there were several poignant nuggets of information/revelations surrounded by clouds of *eh-hem* bullshit. It took me until about page 200 to get to a point where I actually got some enjoyment out of reading the book, and then that enjoyment dissipated at around page 400. I give it 2.5 stars because what I DID manage to get out of this book was great, but I wish I had gotten those revelations in a more concise read.
