The Seep by Chana Porter

5.0

A really unique and impactful story about grief, identity, and acceptance.

I have a thousand thoughts in my heads and this review will make little sense.

I was captivated my the complexity between humans and The Seep. The desire to never take things for granted, but the toxicity of these expectations. I deeply felt Trina’s journey, the panic confusion anger and self sabotage. I mainly appreciated the idea that humans need challenge but not challenges that threaten our existence.

The short story was not as successful to me. I think it would have been better to integrated into the story and provide a second pov. It is not that the main story did not provide a great glimpse of the world, but that the short story did not reach the emotional highs that it clearly wanted to reach.

This is all so vague, but I would not want to ruin someone’s experience with this book. You need to allow the story to sweep you and show you what you need (much like The Seep).

Finally, I have never hated anyone as much as I hated Horizon Line.

5✨✨ without the short story, 4.5 ✨ with it.

TW: grief, racism, death, self harm, depression.
