The Turn of the Screw
by Henry James
I think this books is a hate it or love it book, and not much in between. It’s a gothic horror novel of a governess who either is seeing legitimate evil spirits or is going crazy.
For me, it read as neither. It felt more like I was looking at that typical teacher who says ‘I can save them all’. You know the type that believes in every single kid is an angel and could never do anything wrong even as they stab her in the eye.
What really got me was the interactions between Miles and the governess. It felt so intimate and a creepy way. I couldn’t get over how my thought was the horror part of the story was about a 10 year wooing his governess and them getting together when he is of age.
