Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone
by Diana Gabaldon
Actually amplified my understanding of American history--I had a copy of The First Salute by Barbara W. Tuchman, wondering how much more of it that I would read--and opened it to an account of the 'local' battle that was fought at King's Ridge by Cornwallis' commander in the province of North Carolina, Major Patrick Ferguson. He had proclaimed in 1780 that if patriot officers kept resisting British arms, he would "march over the mountains, hang their leaders and lay waste to the country with fire and sword." Wow, I found Diana Gabaldon had framed her historical fiction to bring the past alive--and I continue to read Tuchman's account of the American Revolution.
