Nursing a Grudge by Diana Orgain

4.0

Kate Connolly is trying to learn all the tricks of the trade of being a private investigator, while taking care of her four month old baby, Laurie. She has a supportive husband and a kind retired cop as a mentor to learn to become a PI. Her latest case is becoming frustrating, especially when a rival PI is trying to solve the case before she can.

This is a fun, quick read with several humorous moments throughout the book. Kate comes across as believable, even when some of the situations seem a little far-fetched. Kate’s to-do lists at the beginning of the chapters are also funny. I guessed the murderer before Kate did, but I was entertained throughout the book and hope this series continues. I have enjoyed seeing Kate grow as a private investigator, as well as seeing her everyday life as a wife and new mother. She still has a lot to learn about both, but that adds to the humor.

I’ve read the prior books in this series, but new readers would be able to catch on to who’s who very quickly and enjoy the fun of this book. Readers who enjoy Ayelet Waldman’s “Mommy Track” series or Sara Rosett’s “Ellie Avery Mysteries” will enjoy this light-hearted mystery about Kate Connolly learning the PI trade while also adjusting to motherhood.
