All the Crooked Saints
by Maggie Stiefvater
"Here was a thing Beatriz wanted: to devote time to understanding how a butterfly was similar to a galaxy. Here was a thing she feared: being asked to do anything else."
There are books which are powerful because they are well written and tell their story well, and there are books which are powerful because they seem to speak directly to you. The first two times I read this book it was the former: I rated it five stars because I was touched by the beautiful story. This time it turned out to be the book I really needed to read today, and I am crying in the garden because it spoke to something deeper in my heart.
"Marisita believed that a few people could reach perfection if only they tried hard enough. And as she had been trying, and had not reached it, she considered herself a failure at all times.
No one else counted Marisita as a failure."
With everything going on right now, it was time for a book about darkness, and miracles, and hope.
"What a shame that both miracles and radio waves are invisible, because it would be quite a sight: ribbons of marvel and sound stretching out straight and true from all over the world."
