The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

5.0

It's rather difficult to review this wonderful book without giving away too much. This is the first Agatha Christie book I've read and I don't think it will be the last. Ingenious , complicated plots, intriguing characters with so much to hide, and the added bonus of playing the game with yourself 'guess who did it'. I was bambozzled until the very last chapter. Thought I'd got it but was led astray by a red herring. You imagine too, that the style might be that of a 'cozy mystery' but there is darkness lurking underneath, including the shocking suggestion made by Hercule Poirot to the guilty party of how things should be put right. Which one to read next?
