I give this four stars. I found Hemingway's accounting of the war both unique and fascinating and his characters to be very human which brought much more reality into the reading experience. There were portions of the book that seemed to drawl on longer than necessary and details that were pointless, considering the big picture. But perhaps that's what Hemingway was getting at... In the end, Frederic Henry's life seemed quite purposeless. I have fallen madly in love with Hemingway's writing style, however, and am looking forward to the next Hemingway book that I will read.
