To me, The Stranger was almost like a little study on one of the many types of people that exist in this world. The plot is not incredibly thrilling, and it is not the type of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, but I think that is exactly what Camus was trying to do. He wanted readers to reflect on the type of person the main character, Meursault, was, which was a character devoid of any emotion. He did not cry at his mother's funeral, didn't feel any explicit happiness when his girlfriend stated that she loved him, did not feel any guilt or remorse when his friend asked him to write a letter in order to lure his ex girlfriend back so he could beat her up. He has no feeling negative or positive, which leads to him getting tangled up in a murder, in which he felt so detached from that he forgot he was a criminal.
Overall I interpreted this book as a case study into a certain type of person, and almost as a nonfiction book and a fiction one. I would definitely give this book a go if that sounds like something you would like. But if you want more a page turner than I wouldn't recommend this book.
