A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
4.0

what an incredible ending! charles dickens is undoubtedly one of my favorite writers, but i have to admit that his writing style can be challenging at times, with his penchant for long, meandering sentences and excessive use of commas - this is especially evident in this particular novel. despite this, a tale of two cities is a captivating read, with well-drawn characters and a clear depiction of the two cities (paris and london) and their starkly contrasting social conditions. the novel's commentary on the french revolution is spot-on, and it's impressive to see how dickens weaves together themes of love, sacrifice, and revenge to create a powerful, multi-dimensional, dark, and hopeful story. yes, the language may be difficult to parse at times. still, i highly recommend this book to anyone willing to invest the necessary concentration and effort in appreciating it fully. it's a remarkable work of literature that speaks to the timeless issues of social inequality and political upheaval.
