I picked up this book because I read The Little Red Wolf, the author’s previous work, and I gotta say it was a pretty bizarre adventure. One moment after another I’m admiring the artwork up until the very end, where I’m wondering what the HECK is going on.

We don’t get much info on the background plot that surrounds the forest. Even the kids get an explanation but it happens off-scene so the readers are not privy to it. But I think the book’s supposed to have a grim fairy tale-like feel, so rather than question why these things are happening to the kid characters we are just meant to accept it as we go along.

The human characters are adorably designed, my favourite’s obviously the little one who pretends to be a robot. His little antics in the background are just funny.

But the inhabitants of the forest are the true stand-outs in this book. The coloured pages dedicated to the forest are breath-taking and really bring out the mysteriousness and underlying danger in its beauty.

Definitely glad I picked this up! The Lost Path is a fun little book where the plot may be a difficult to follow but makes up for it with beautiful artwork and whimsical characters.
