Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher

2.0

If this book had a different ending, it probably would have been 5 stars. As it is - it's barely 2, because for most of the story it feels like it is building up to something spectacular and monumental, but what you get instead of those rocketing fireworks you expected at the end, is a weak, sad fizzle.
The character building, the narration, the insight into the psyche, were all gripping and had me fully captivated. What a shame this ended in such a pointless way.
I saw a hint somewhere that it was based on what the author's friend actually did to her. I wonder if that is true, but whichever way, this story is not fulfilled for me. For a fully fictional thriller, it is definitely lacking a thrilling end; for a true story, the narration has too much of a fictional quality. I feel like this book is on the fence about what it wants to be and I wish it had gone one way or the other.
