Once in a great while you'll find a series that doesn't disappoint. This is one of them.
After devouring Preacher on the Run (book 1) I couldn't wait for the next installment of the series. I was fully invested in the story and its characters. So when I received Promise of Refuge in my inbox I was thrilled! For being a very short and quick read the prequel stayed amazingly true to the first book. I very much enjoyed getting to see how Robert and Magdalene first met. I think they are such a sweet couple.
Let me tell you, there's nothing quite as satisfying as knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that the historical aspects of a book have been incredibly well-researched by the author. I believe I said this in my review of the first book but Jayna Baas goes above and beyond to ensure the accuracy and believability in her stories.
This was an excellent addition to the series and one that I highly recommend you don't miss out on.
