Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
4.0
This book reads as though it’s been made sickly. Not in a weak way; in a fever-dream mania that disquiets you, concerns you. The characters feel infected and unhinged by it, too, of course, this toxic wrongness.
Which I love.
Flynn has the uncanny ability of fashioning living people from a bit of paper and a few pulses of ink. They feel solid and respiring, breathing down your neck as you pant onto the pages. It’s exquisite.
Really more of a 4.5 stars. I couldn’t give it 5 because the ending didn’t hit me like I wanted it to. Swung a bit too low to be a sucker punch.
