I was hoping I would like this book when I first heard about it, and I can now say I absolutely loved it. It subverts so many fantasy tropes (83 year old Chosen One? yes, please) while still being a brilliant fantasy story in its own right. It's incredibly funny and simultaneously incredibly dark. I loved all the (frequently unapologetically queer) characters and found them diverse, believable, and layered. There's a lot of character growth, the world (although very 'modern' and familiar) somehow really makes sense, and the writing is great. There were only a few times where I felt like the perspective was a little bit confusing (where I thought we were seeing a scene through the eyes of character X but then a thought appeared that only character Y could have had), but it wasn't jarring or frequent enough to diminish the overall reading experience.
