The Burning Shadow by Jennifer L. Armentrout

5.0

This book was a great second entry to the series. I will admit it has been a while since I read The Darkest Star, but I was able to fall back in with the characters that I felt like I had become friends with. If you are a fan of the Lux series, you will definitely see echoes of Katy and Daemon in Evie and Luc, but they really branch out in this book and pave their own way. The story doesn’t have to spend as much time developing the setting and the characters, so almost immediately you are plunged into the action. There are some moments that are slow and have to be trudged through, but the action swings back in hard, especially as you reach the end. Familiar faces from the Lux series return in new and unique ways. Evie really establishes her own as a strong character. Moments seemed lifted straight from other books in the series, but they were few and far between. Armentrout also does an amazing job at establishing a setting that is realistic to the actual places. No made up cities and states. The characters feel like they could be sitting next to you in classes, like you had been friends forever. Overall, The Burning Shadow is well worth a reread. It was a welcome addition to the series.
