Foxglove Farm by Christie Barlow
5.0

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Love Heart Lane so I was super excited to read Foxglove Farm and get back to the inhabitants of Heartcross.

Whilst Love Heart Lane focused on Felicity and Fergus, Foxglove Farm is centred around Isla and Drew who live at the farm. This book picks up a few months after the last book therefore Isla and Drew are now parents to two boys, Finn and Angus following Angus’s arrival at the end of Love Heart Lane. However things are far from rosy at the farm, and its not just the sleepless nights and early mornings causing tension…but Isla doesn’t actually know what’s wrong with Drew because, other than sniping at her, he won’t talk.

I absolutely loved being back in Heartcross with characters that I’d fallen in love with in the previous book, whilst this could be read as a standalone I would recommend reading Love Heart Lane first so you are introduced to the characters and understand the events of the previous winter. The community spirit is still in full swing in this book, it is heartwarming to witness the strong friends across the village and how everyone is quick to rally when someone needs it, without even being asked.

Foxglove Farm does introduce us to a new character, Martha who is Isla’s grandmother. Martha is a bit of a free spirit so it’s been a while since she’s been seen in Heartcross but she settles back in brilliantly. Although Isla has her reservations over her impromptu visitor with everything that is going on with Drew, Martha really comes into her own and is priceless. I really liked Martha’s character, to the point but diplomatic, peacemaker but also fiercely protective of her granddaughter. Martha is a wonderful addition tot he Heartcross crew!

I really liked how Christie Barlow linked a number of storylines into the overall plot of Foxglove Farm, some of which were hard-hitting and very relevant, others quite humorous….one of which included Alpacas who sound incredibly cute!

I thoroughly enjoyed Foxglove Farm from start to end, a beautifully written and engaging story and I’m pleased to say that there will be a third book, Clover Cottage, currently scheduled to be out in December 2019.
