I want to say that I would never let one characters fate influence my final rating but that would be untrue. there was only one way that this book could have ended for me. I hope that's not a spoiler.
admittedly this isnt my favourite of the trilogy, but I think that comes from a place of favouritism and bias for our main characters. I still devoured this book in no time, even if my motivation for doing this was because I was desperate for more of our main characters being in the same room, which Kincaid masterfully dangled within just acceptable distance from us to keep us going.
it did feel the plot was a bit repetitive, though I think that's maybe because we as readers, having been through book one and two, are more attuned to what is to be expected at this point. but a solid conclusion and finale that felt satisfying and entirely refreshing to read.
I also really loved that we are still learning more about this world and our characters despite this being book three. I'm glad Gladdic and Anguish got more page time, because it was fascinating to see how they influenced and impacted our main characters.
this has been the most enjoyable week and a half of reading for me this year. I will definitely be revisiting this world in a reread (rare for me!) but I enjoyed this a lot and would recommend it if you like sci-fi, morally grey characters, court intrigue and books like The Cruel Prince trilogy / The Folk Of The Air. I have already recommended this book to everyone I know that enjoyed the cruel prince trilogy, even if they don't especially love sci-fi like I do. I hope they read this and like it as much as I do, and that it's not just me coping real hard LOL
