Foxglove by Adalyn Grace
2.75

Foxglove is the sequel to Belladonna, mostly following Signa as she tries to unravel yet another Mystery to help the Hawthorns.

I don’t know, this one was just…fine? If Fate hadn’t been introduced at the tail end of Belladonna, this book wouldn’t need to exist at all, and it kind of felt that way. Nothing really happens in this book and I really never felt the stakes or cared. I might still pick up book 3 and it feels like it might be something new.

Unfortunately that is all I can say without spoilers so, you have been warned the following will contain spoilers.

This book is just repeat of book one. Someone dies, no one knows the truth, Signa and Death must solve this mystery before it is two late. The only obstacle, really, is Fate. The issue is, the twists at the end are so painfully obvious that I don’t know how Death and Fate didn’t put it together considering they are undying, ageless beings. I knew from the PREVIOUS book that Life would Blythe (who I frankly don’t really like).
Additionally, it’s so repulsive. The first 25% of the book Signa tells us over and over that she can’t tell Blythe anything to protect Blythe. Like, I don’t know girl, Blythe can handle herself. Feels like poor reasoning.
Also, so is the target audience??? It says YA (specifically 14-18), yet I’m not convinced Signa and Death actually like each other as much as they just need to have sex with each other. Any time they are anywhere near each other it is ALL Signa can think about. That doesn’t feel very 14 year old friendly to me. I am not against sexual thoughts and content in YA books in general, but it was often. It really felt more New Adult since Signa and Blythe are about 20, and I know NA is a newer term many publishers haven’t picked up yet, so I’m guessing that’s the reason for the YA label, but I don’t know.
The only reason I’m even considering picking up book 3 is I was spoiled by BookTube before I ever read the series that book 3 is from Blythe’s POV. While I don’t really like Blythe, I imagine it will be a test of wills between her and Fate for awhile until they eventually open their eyes and see she is Life, so they might be a messy kind of fun.
