Bittersweet Promises by Carrie Ann Ryan, Carrie Ann Ryan

4.0

This is the start of a new series with the new generation of Montgomery's and makes for an excellent place to start if you're new to the Montgomery world. Leif, from previous books, is all grown up and this is his story. There is great interaction between the main characters - Leif, Brooke and her son Luke. The addition of a child, making this relationship instafamily is reminiscent of Leif's original introduction and played well in a world-turning kind of way. The drama surrounding both Brooke, in her professional life, and Leif, with his past, stops this story from potentially being too saccharine. While this book is standalone, you would definitely benefit from being familiar with the Montgomery world, even if you haven't read them all, but perhaps the inclusion of a family would help keep everyone straight.
Overall, I really enjoyed this read and am looking forward to reading more of the new generation.
