Unlocked by Shannon Messenger

4.0

So I just finished rereading Unlocked before I read Stellarlune, and I couldn’t help but remember when I first got the book, back in November of 2020.

I preordered my copy from Barnes and Noble, and I remember opening the front door one day and seeing the brown cardboard box sitting out in the cold surrounded by snow. I had screamed, and ran out the door, not caring that my socks were soaked from the snow. I’d grabbed the box and ran into the kitchen, trying not to shake the box to much. I grabbed a pair of scissors and slowly opened up the box, revealing the beautiful, shiny, hardcover copy of Keeper of the Lost Cities Unlocked.

I forced myself to read the entire guide before I read the novella. I remember staring down at the book in awe when I saw the art inside, and the laughter that came out of me when I read all about the problems Keefe had caused Councillor Alina, when she was still the principal of Foxfire.

I remember, sitting on my bed, in the dark with a flashlight and an hour I can’t even remember because I didn’t bother to check the time at all, rereading that letter Keefe wrote to Sophie, trying to figure out how Sophie would react.

And now, here I am. Two years later, finally holding a copy of Stellerlune. And I couldn’t help myself, but I pulled my copy of Unlocked off the shelf, and reread that letter from Keefe, even though is just read it earlier that day. It gave me the courage to open this door, and let me continue this journey with Sophie Foster.

I’ve enjoyed reading Unlocked over the past two years, and I hope that I will continue to reread it, many times. Thank you for reading my review. I hope that you enjoyed this book as much as I did.
