Hinton Hollow Death Trip by Will Carver

4.0

A small story for a small town filled with small lives you would never have heard of without the events of one fateful week. Evil has arrived in Hinton Hollow. The 5,120 residents living there will never see the danger headed their way. Evil has opened the door for residents to open the door to their most hidden desires and murderous intentions. Narrated by Evil itself, this is the journey into the darkest five days in Hinton Hollow history. Detective Sergeant Pace, who calls Hinton Hollow his hometown, has arrived just in time to watch it fall to the ground. Is he the town’s only hope to return to normalcy?

Will Carver worked his way onto my auto-buy authors list after I read GOOD SAMARITANS, which is the first book in this series. I was instantly captivated by his rapid fire storytelling and imaginative plots. Carver is an author who isn’t afraid to take his reader to some dark places in order to craft a wild ride into the chilling minds of humankind.

HINTON HOLLOW DEATH TRIP follows the same creative, high-concept story as the previous two installments of this series. Told from the voice of Evil, this book explores the desires that people often keep hidden from the light of day. Have you ever wanted to get revenge on someone? Evil is here to help you make that dream come true. This book explores a series of related characters and how Evil is able to influence their actions over the course of five days. Some people are stronger than others. Some will be more than happy to jump at the chance to show their true nature.

Carver has structured every book in this series with short chapters that truly work seamlessly with his writing style. Carver’s writing is incredibly concise, which still allows the reader's mind wander and form relationships with the characters. This writing style paired with short chapters creates a story that comes at the reader fast and furious. I always find myself binging Carver’s books and this was absolutely no exception! In addition, Carver breaks the book down into sections for each day, which I really felt helped to set the stage for what was coming.

HINTON HOLLOW DEATH TRIP is a unique story that I will certainly be recommending to crime fiction fans! I will say that this book hints at several parts of the plot to book two in this series, NOTHING IMPORTANT HAPPENED TODAY. I don’t think that you have to read that book first to enjoy this one, but if you plan on reading it, I’d suggest going in order to avoid possible spoilers.
