Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

4.0

A great, gripping and gruesome retelling of ancient mythology. I enjoyed the poetic and slightly more complex lexicon Saint used in this book as it made reading Ariadne feel slightly more enriching compared to your average contemporary novel. I personally feel zero connection emotionally to the theme of motherhood but this story was still an epic one with emotional highs and lows as colossal as Zeus himself. I have no real complaints and this book left me feeling oddly comforted as greek mythology brings me back to my childhood and learning more about the lore of those upon and below the Mountains of Olympus is always a worthwhile investment of my time. I appreciate the feminist angle taken by Jennifer Saint as, though I am not a woman, it feels necessary to take a step back from the archaic glorification of "masculinity" and bloodshed and examine the emotions of the victim. Essentially, I'm pro woke-ification of mythology /lh
