Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill
2.0

This book is more like 2 stars. That extra star is just for the COVER

First, let me tell you a interesting conversation I had with my brain around 30-40% of the book.Yes,I talk with my brain.I am weird that way.It went something like this:

BRAIN: Are you loving this?
ME: Uhh,I like it just a little bit.I won't say I am loving it though.
BRAIN: Then, why are you still reading this? You can read something else.Look at your TBR shelf. It's a MESS.
ME: *shrugging* Because it's predictable.
BRAIN: *stutters* What?!What?
ME: Yes,Mr.B.Like,I think about this certain thing and it appears on the page. It's Magic.I LOVE guessing what happens.

BRAIN: You are deranged
ME: Why,Mr.B,thank you.
BRAIN: *murmurs something unintelligent*

*FYI,this is how I convinced myself to carry on with the book.DO NOT JUDGE.

When I heard the series name Clash of Kingdoms,I thought this would be more of my kind of read.My expectations were a little high.I guess it was my fault.

WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT?

The story is about Britta,a girl who tries to find the person responsible for her father's murder. She is caught hunting and taken to the King. There she gets a deal in turn for her life: to catch her father's alleged killer,Cohen McKay.
There are two kingdoms-Malam and Shaerdan. And there is animosity between them. There is a risk of the two kingdoms going to war.(I don't want to give away too much regarding the plot)

THE THINGS I LOVED:

* The writing is good.I mean you don't feel bored through the book so I guess that's a good thing?
*The names of the Kingdoms: Malam and Shaerdan.I just like the names,I don't know, why
* The character Leif.
*Britta's fathers words:

"Bravery is a choice that is yours to make.Don't let fear steal your will"

WHY THIS DIDN'T WORK FOR ME:

*My first and foremost concern is the predictability of the story.I felt there wasn't anything new added to it.
The last half of the book,my reaction was:

*The Characters:
Honestly,Britt bugged me.The first 20% of the book,I liked her.Even though she constantly whined about Cohen. But then sometimes, things became a bit too cheesy for me.I felt like she was a strong character but then when Cohen came along, that was different.
And Cohen,I didn't connect with him.*I don't like you,buddy*

SpoilerBasically, this felt like a love story with a little action thrown in it.

And THAT ending,man.
SpoilerReally, what is with the King dude?
I would probably read book 2 because of my curiosity.

*Thanks for the publisher for providing an ARC
