The Silent Waters: ★ ★ ★ ★
Brittainy C. Cherry (Elements, #3)
The world keeps spinning because your heartbeats exist.
When a tragic accident forces a young Maggie May to lose her voice, her best friend and the boy she loves will do anything to keep her afloat. But when the tables are turned, can she do the same for him?
This book has been on my TBR for such a long time and I finally picked it up at around 3 AM, and finished it within a couple hours and I am so glad I did, because I think it's the book that got me out of a reading slump. The writing is really, really good
There's something about the way this book was written–the story flows so well and it's smooth and effortless, but simultaneously viivd and picturesque. Cherry includes these wonderful details that make you picture everything in your head and it makes the story all the more compelling: the anchor necklace, the letters, the books, the music, the dancing. I mean, Brooks & Maggie basically did everything that a perfect couple would do.
I absolutely loved Brooks, even if I got ever so slightly irked with him near the end, but he obviously redeemed himself. Maggie was so sweet and wholesome and such a good person that it's impossible not to like her. The way I went from loathing Cheryl to loving her was honestly amazing–she's fabulous, and I loved all the side characters in this book, to be honest.
But, no matter what, the HIGHLIGHT of this book was Maggie and her dad's relationship. Despite all the wonderful Brooks & Maggie quotes I could have chosen, I chose one with her and her dad because the scene near the end when Maggie says that to her Dad literally had me choked up. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
The push and pull between the two of them can get a little trying, though, but I kind of loved how they always stood by one another and loved each other no matter what. An adorable couple that I loved reading about!
