This is the most complicated rating of the year. The first 1/3 of it, it was sitting at a 3 star. The pacing was off, and it relied very heavily on YA tropes from 2013. But then I started loving the characters and intensely connecting as minority who majored in art.
The story shot up to a 3.75. I could overlook the tropes and the weird not quite right internal thoughts because I loved these sweet characters. But I think it drops to a 3.5 for the final. The ending post wedding comes off a little rushed and honestly reinforces the pacing issues from earlier in the story.
