I'm gonna start and say I didn't enjoy this as much as the Fine Print. There were just a few things that I wasn't a fan of, and this made the story a little disappointing for me. To start with, I know we met the characters in the Fine Print, but personally I didn't feel as much empathy for Iris and Declan as I did for Rowan and Zahra, even though all 4 had past trauma. I felt more sorry for Declan, as you could see all the problems him and his brothers had with his dad.
SpoilerI think it would have been better to hear more about Iris' story with her dad so you could properly understand why she was so upset with Declan after their argument. I thought the engagement and wedding were quite rushed, and I think her mum would have put up more of a fight of her marrying someone like her father. More to the point why didn't anyone say "why are you marrying your boss?!". Lastly, the grovelling was really poor IMO. There's no way I'd have forgiven all what Declan said by him buying a dog, a van and proposing. Everything he said in that said argument was also a bit too much too, like they could have just left it as him saying she made an error, he didn't need to go into the whole "You failed" and "Do your job properly", I honestly thought I can't imagine Declan saying that after his love declaration in the previous chapters. Lastly I would have liked to see if anything resolved between Declan and his Dad, I guess we'll get more in Cal's book but would have been nice to get an idea as it was kind of forgotten about in the abrupt ending.
I'll finish off by saying what I thought was good - I loved Zahra's and Iris' blossoming friendship, I can totally imagine these two getting on and becoming close friends. I also really liked Cal's character, takes a lot to stand up to family and I agree with everything he said to Declan, I'm intrigued to read his book next!
