Three Sides of a Heart: Stories about Love Triangles by Natalie C. Parker
3.0
Disclaimer: I received a free copy for review purposes.
I will be completely honest and say that this anthology, overall, was a little disappointing. I don't mind a good love triangle every now and then, but I'm not a huge fan so maybe the rating is a little bias. A lot of the stories did have a unique spin on love triangles so that was a positive. But some of the stories were very hit and miss. I'm starting to think maybe anthologies aren't for me.
There were some definite stand-out short stories in here, and there is a vast array of diverse characters and pairings. Some of my favourites include Dread South by Justina Ireland (f/f), Lessons for Beginners by Julie Murphy (f/f), Vim and Vigor by Veronica Roth, and Waiting by Sabaa Tahir. There were some interesting and unique stories in here too, some which would probably work well as full-length novels. A couple of these are, The Historian, the Garrison, and the Cantankerous Cat Woman by Lamar Giles (which was, wow.), and Cass, An, and Dra by Natalie C. Parker (f/f).
Unfortunately, some of the stories were so...meh. Some authors managed to create such vivid world-building, and A+ characters in such a short story, but regrettably, I felt disappointed by too many stories in here for me to give this a higher rating. I think if you're a fan of anthologies, and you like unique spins on love triangles, you will probably like this a lot.
