This is a high-quality hardcover book with gorgeous gilded elements and a ribbon bookmark, and instead of just focusing on dinosaurs, it also includes other prehistoric creatures that people are less familiar with. The book shares photographs of actual fossils along with illustrations and two paragraphs of text about each creature. This will appeal to kids who love dinosaurs, and is appropriate for a broad age range. However, I wish that the author had included more information about the science of paleontology and answered more "Why?" and "How?" questions that the material raises. If someone is looking for in-depth information and answers to lots of questions, they'll be best pursuing a different resource, while this is a good basic introduction and photograph collection.
