These Feathered Flames
by Alexandra Overy
The book started out pretty good and I was intrigued with the story. Twin girls whose fates were decided. One to be come the firebird and one to become the queen. They were separated to train in each of their roles. They finally get together after their mother dies.
I thought they are both pretty immature. Izaveta was brought up to think everyone is lying and taking advantage. Also, she isn't the best at reading people despite all of her training from her mother. She sees everyone as a pawn to be manipulated. And you'd think she would trust her own sister, but she only sees her as another pawn in the game. Asya thinks she can handle everything herself when it's just easier to ask for help. Both are trying to prove to themselves and others that they are capable of their new roles.
The last quarter of the book is where most of the excitement happens. I just didn't care for the story and how the characters just lack intelligence and common sense. It's like they all have to be barely managing their own lives and problems to make a story out of it. The world building is nonnexistent where we are just told not shown. Also, one of the big advertisement for this book is FF enemies to lovers and that was barely scratched into the book. Huge disappointment!
