Powerful memoir, especially on audio as it was read by Jennette herself. Rating and reviewing a memoir is always a challenge, but I’m thankful that Jennette shared her story in such a vulnerable and raw way. She shares some of the horrific experiences she has lived through as well as her own struggles and attempts to process coping with challenges of life. This book has a lot of really heavy themes of abuse and eating disorders.
A few things to note- I wish there had been more included on how she had finally found some help and hope in the end with her eating disorders, it felt like all of a sudden she was doing better and was in a new program and after so much detail shared up to that point of the struggle every day it felt like there wasn’t a lot to grasp on what had really helped her in the end and seemed to wrap up really fast in that regard. I also wish that there had been some resources included in the audiobook for those who are struggling with eating disorders or find themselves in abusive situations (there may have been some in the physical book, but I only had the audio version).
Overall, a powerful and memorable memoir that reminds us that often the people we admire from a distance are going through so much more than we will ever imagine or realize.
