Dispatches
by Michael Herr
Reading this book is like walking naked in a Category 5 hurricane. Sure, you might still have flesh on your bones at the end of it, but you might not wanna.
I notice that Hunter S. Thompson blurbed this book. That should more or less tell you everything you need to know. Stylistically, it's one of the most brilliant things I've ever read. As a portrait of war, it is unforgiving and relentless. Horrifying, beautiful, intoxicating, obliterating.
I have no words sufficient to describe it; just read this thing.
