Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation
by Octavia E. Butler
Great GN adaptation. Such an emotional, raw , powerful , insight and Jump back into life during slave days .
Dana is a black woman who flips back in time to discover why she went back and is lead to meet Rufus , an entitled white boy ( then grows to man as Dana’s trio become more frequent) . She must see why she is lead to him to figure what needs to change or be helped and is he her ancestor .
She is subjected to hate , whipping , labor , racism , and straight up cruelty . Her husband jumps back a few times w her and he is a white man , they just pretend not be romantically involved , because during the times such a thing was illegal .
It’s interesting to see how their roles must change and adapt while back in time .
It’s a flash back into history and how hatred and racism is definitely taught and generational . It’s so powerful like I can’t put words properly so just read it. Even thou again it’s the graphic novel I still feel I got the full effect reading this .
