I get the hype. Was this book full of tropes and clichés? Yes. Was it your usual Broody shadow daddy X Small fragile looking but actually a badass girl whose more powerful than everyone? Yes. Did I have fun? Hells yes.
This felt like a five star and for a good reason. The writing style is easy to read and follow. The aesthetic of a war college is always a banger. And dragons? Everyone loves dragons.
The dynamic between Xaden and Violet felt real. Sometimes I struggle with the pacing of some romances as they either hate hate then suddenly love eachother or the real hate is just not there to begin with. In fourth wing, I really believed the hatred they were supposed to feel for eachother and I can believe they grew closer due to the forced proximity. Even tho we learn that both were thisting after eachother after seeing for the first time. Lol
